After an eight-year jinx, Gilas Pilipinas finally broke the spell as they defeated the South Korea, 81-78 in their first game during the third and final window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Clark, Pampanga on Wednesday, June 16.
SJ Belangel was the hero in the game with a buzzer-beating three-pointer with just two seconds left. The shot has brought the Gilas team in a rejoice.
Dwight Ramos also sizzled in the game with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals to help seal the victory.
The victory has propelled the Philippines for the Asia Cup berth with a commanding 4-0 record in Group A. It has two games more, one with Indonesia and a rematch with South Korea.
Twin towers Kai Sotto and Angelo Kouame also starred in the game along with their co-players coached by Tab Baldwin.
Former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe, naturalized as Ra Gun-ah, led the Koreans in their losing stand.#
