The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed its Luzon grid under red alert from 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Monday.

In a post in their social media account, NGCP said, “five power plants are on forced outage while three others are running on derated capacities.”

This resulted in a total 1,354MW unavailable to the grid.

NGCP explained, ”a red alert status is issued when power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement.”

A yellow alert is also raised at 4pm to 6pm today which means “the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s regulating and contingency requirement.”

Because of the red alert, several provinces are having unscheduled power interruption in parts of Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, La Union, Laguna, Quezon, Albay, Batangas and Nueva Ecija,

Visayas grid is on yellow alert from 2pm to 9pm.
