TUGUEGARAO CITY–Twelve-year-old Leo Nicholas De Leon of Santiago City Schools Division bagged the 2024 Most Outstanding Campus Journalist (MOCJ) award on Friday, besting eight other finalists in Cagayan Valley at the People’s Gymnasium here.

Dubbed in his city as “Little Talkmaster” and recently hailed as “Batang Broadkaster-Ambassador” by a local FM radio station, De Leon is described “as an active, well-spoken, gutsy, versatile and multifaceted sixth grader at Santiago North Central School Integrated SpEd Center,” his mentors said.

In 2019, he was the youngest campus journalist in his division to have aced radio broadcasting at the age of 8 (Grade 2). Since then, he has been “consistently bringing pride and honor to his division as a broadcasting champ,” her coaches added.

According to his adviser Cherry Bawiga, De Leon is a consistent honor student, school paper editor, performer, trainer, speaking champ, three-time RSPC qualifier, two-time SPG (now SELG) officer and an outgoing officer in the regional editors’ guild.

As this year’s national MOCJ bet, De Leon is set to compete in Cebu on July 7-13, 2024.#
