TUGUEGARAO CITY-Senatorial aspirant Luis “Chavit” Singson has advocated for a universal basic income (UBI) dubbed as “Chavit 500” bill if elected in 2025 elections that will give a “lifelong” assistance and lifeline during hard times for underprivileged people across the country.
Singson expounded during the news briefing at The Ve’Nue hotel in Caggay village on December 20 that the “Chavit P500” UBI program would benefit underprivileged and poor people.
Chavit’s proposal if elected to the Senate seeks to provide a ₱500 monthly stipend to Filipinos aged 18 and above who earn minimum wage or less and even those with no income at all.
“Para orig at di kopyahin, ang magiging pangalan ay Chavit 500 at isusulong ko yan na batas (So that it is original and cannot be copied, I will name it as Chavit 500 and I will ensure that this will become a law),” he added.
Tuguegarao transport leaders and barangay captains have expressed approval on the proposed Chavit 500 proposal.
Aside from the villagers, drivers and vendors also expressed elation over the proposal.
“Malaking tulong na po yan sa amin (That is a big help for us),” ambulant vendor Jun Matammu of this city said.#
