TUGUEGARAO CITY-Typhoon Nando’s aftermath in coastal Calayan in Cagayan has literally brought the town in a mess as hours of strong winds and heavy rains have damaged houses, fallen trees, and damaged crops.
Calayan municipal disaster risk reduction management office has reported that they have been collating yet reports but “fishing boats and passenger boats are almost useless,” Calayan disaster response worker Jeo Robert Arirao said in a mobile chat with this correspondent.
Regina Baybon’s house was “totally toppled,” causing her and other family members to flee to nearby neighbors in higher grounds.
“We got nothing to retrieve as the storm surge destroyed our house and out belongings,” she told the disaster response office in Calayan.
Centro 2 village chief Romel Remolacio has confirmed a massive damage and asked for volunteerism among villagers and other responders in initiating clearing operations on the streets after the damage caused by the storm.
“Our streets have been almost rendered impassable due to fallen electric posts and trees, aside from destroyed boats and other properties,” he reported to the disaster office.#
