TUGUEGARAO CITY-Malaga fish raisers in Buguey town in Cagayan have to do “forced harvest” of a thousand kilo of the said fish species at their ponds due to the murky and dirty waters that endangered their lives on July 19.

Mayor Licerio Antiporda III told reporters on Saturday that the forced harvest was done to lessen possible financial losses of fishers and raisers of Malaga fish, a popular delicacy in the province.

A kilo of the forcedly harvested Malaga fish sells at P200 to P250 a kilo, a far cry from its P350 to P500 a kilo selling price for matured ones.

Most of the harvested fish species have been stocked at the town’s población in Minanga village.

Antiporda said they are planning to buy Malaga fish at P200 a kilo to lessen the losses of raisers.

“If we do not harvest the Malaga, these will die,” he added.#
