SHOWING its might anew against typhoons, the Sierra Madre has prevented the gusty winds and heavy rains brought on by the calamities.

Known as the Backbone of Luzon, it took its vital role as a supplemental natural shield in protecting and lessening the impact of typhoons like Kristine.

Home to thousands of species of flora and fauna, Sierra Madre stretches from the northern provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya down to the southern part of Quezon.

Specifically, it is recorded in government documents as the longest mountain range in the Philippines.

Spanning over 540 kilometers it runs from the province of Cagayan down to the province of Quezon, forming a north–south direction on the eastern portion of Luzon.

It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Cagayan Valley to the northwest, Central Luzon to the midwest, and Calabarzon to the southwest.

Coastal areas such as Palanan, Maconacon, Divilacan in its northern part could only be accessed by taking a plane or a boat.

This time, let us continue to preserve the might, beauty and legacy of the Sierra Madre by advocating for responsible and continuous environmental practices.
