SANTIAGO CITY-Professor Boyet Batang was elected president of the Isabela State University System in a majority of votes by the Isabela State University Board of Regents (ISU BOR) during a special board meeting held on March 20 at Zen Hotel here.
Professor Batang, also the university’s vice president for academic affairs, will replace outgoing president, Dr. Ricmar Aquino, whose eight-year service will end on May 19, 2025. Aquino is serving his second term as university president.
Batang will serve from May 20,2025 to May 19, 2029 as president.
He defeated other aspirants to the position, Dr. Victor Barcellano, cluster executive officer of ISU-Cabagan; Atty. Romano Cammayo, ISU vice president for administrative and finance services; and Engr. Alfonso Simon, cluster executive officer of ISU-Ilagan.
The board did not publicly announce the votes of each nominee.
The panelists include Senator Allan Peter Cayetano and congressmen Mark Go and Antonio “Tonypet” Albano.
Batang has envisioned to have a model SMART-Green University with a global reputation for positive societal transformation.
He is poised to introduce innovative policies and initiatives, hoping to further strengthen the university’s position as a premier academic institution in providing quality education, advancing research, and contributing to national development.
Prior to the voting, the aspirants were asked to present their committee reports, share their strengths and weaknesses, and their observations on other bets. #
