Tuguegarao City – The suspect in one of the two shooting incidents that transpired on September 10, 2021 in Baggao, Cagayan was arrested by police authorities on the same day of the incident.
The suspect was identified as Learni Macasiray while the victim is Jose Gener Narag. Both are farmers and residents of Zone 5, Barangay C Verzosa, Baggao, Cagayan.
Police report reveals that in the evening of September 10, 2021, Baggao Police Station received a phone call from Baggao District Hospital informing that a patient with gunshot wound was brought to the hospital for treatment. A team from the police station immediately proceeded to the hospital and identified the victim as Jose Narag.
The shooting happened at about 6:45 in the evening but was only reported to Baggao PNP at 8:40 PM of same date. Accordingly, Macasiray who was under the influence of liquor provoked his parents, prompting his mother to ask help from the victim to pacify the suspect who eventually went home. After some time, while the victim was walking on the road on his way home the suspect suddenly surfaced and without provocation shot the former on the right portion of his shoulder using a converted caliber 22 rifle.
On the other hand, another shooting incident happened on same date at about 6:30 in the evening in Barangay Asinga-via, Baggao but was only reported to Baggao PNP four hours later.
The victim was Libert Cabaro who sustained a gunshot wound on his back. Based on the initial investigation, the victim and a certain Jojo Cabaro went to the residence of the former to secure his house from the onslaught of Typhoon Kiko and when they were about to leave, the victim was shot at his back. Accordingly, the suspect who was wearing a raincoat and a mask immediately fled on foot. Baggao Police Station is conducting pursuit operation for the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Both wounded victims were rushed to Baggao District Hospital and were later transferred to Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Tuguegarao City for further medical attention.
Baggao Police Station is set to file charges Macasiray of Frustrated Murder in relation to Republic Act 10591 against Macasiray today.###
