The Department of Agriculture (DA) is implementing the new Maximum Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of P49.00 per kilo for imported rice (5% broken) in Cagayan Valley.
According to Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 5, Series of 2025, the new SRP is effective in public and private markets starting March 10, 2025. This attempts to prevent sales exploitation and keep rice prices affordable. This follows the law known as Republic Act No. 7581, also known as the Price Act. This law allows the agency to propose prices for basic goods, such as food, to protect the public from overpricing.
In January 2025, the price of rice in the global market decreased, prompting the agency to adjust the price of rice in stores. According to the data from the DA’s Bantay Presyo Monitoring in February 2025, the retail price of imported rice (5% broken) in the National Capital Region (NCR) ranged from ₱48.00 to ₱58.00 per kilo, while the weekly average price reached ₱52.74 per kilo.
The DA R02 has coordinated with the Local Government Units (LGU) to ensure that everyone adheres to the set prices.
Monitoring has also begun in markets selling premium imported rice throughout the region.
On the other hand, the agency hopes that rice retailers in Region Two will adhere to the set prices to maintain fair sales.#
