TUGUEGARAO CITY — The heat index in Aparri, Cagayan soared to 42 degrees Celsius yesterday, March 14, while Tuguegarao City recorded 38 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Due to this extreme heat, residents have been experiencing skin irritation, dizziness, and general discomfort.

According to Benny Rose Maddela, a 37-year-old resident, the heat is not only uncomfortable but also causes irritation to the eyes and body. “It hurts my eyes and feels unpleasant—it’s like a burning sensation that makes you restless,” she said.

She also emphasized the need for people to take extra precautions, as the unpredictable weather can lead to health issues, especially for children and the elderly.

“What I can say is that we should always be careful when going out every day, especially now that it’s getting hot again. Sometimes it’s sunny, then it rains, then suddenly it’s hot again. That makes us prone to illnesses, especially children, since they have weaker immune systems. We need to take care of ourselves so we don’t get sick,” Maddela added.

Experts advise avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, drinking plenty of water, and wearing light and breathable clothing to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.#
