On January 8, 2025, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 2 successfully stocked Bangus (milkfish) fingerlings in the recently discovered Manamtam Salt Spring through its Fisheries Production and Support Services Division in collaboration with the Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) of Nueva Vizcaya. This action is part of an effort to promote sustainable aquaculture.
This initiative initiates a pilot project to investigate the aquaculture possibilities of the salt spring. In addition to determining the best conditions for Bangus development and survival, the initiative will evaluate the viability of using the site for fish farming.
If the pilot program is successful, it may open the door for larger aquaculture operations, which would boost the local economy and improve the standard of living for the communities around it.#
