TUGUEGARAO CITY-A 36-year-old former police officer and now mayoralty bet was arrested on Wednesday after he yielded P2.2-million marijuana bricks in an anti-drug operation in his Sitio Oowayen, Poblacion village in Sadanga, Mountain Province, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera said. PDEA Regional Director Gil Castro, in a statement, said Sonny Kidit Kalaw, 36, of Barangay Data, Sabangan, Benguet.

Kalaw and his cohorts were intercepted at about 7:30 am in the morning while aboard his black Grandia van and yielded 19 marijuana bricks worth P2.28-million in street value, about three-kilometer away from Ampawilen checkpoint. Nabbed with him were Jonathan Abella, 37, a government worker from Barangay Gawana, Barlig; Jeric Sansano, 30, a construction worker, from Bonfal East, Nueva Vizcaya but presently residing in Barangay Fuyayeng, Bontoc; Samson Damaso, 28, a native of Tadian, but presently residing at Barangay Samoki, Bontoc; and a minor. They all came from Mt. Province.

Kalaw and his companions were brought to the Sadanga police station for documentation and temporary custody while the minor was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development of Sadanga.

The suspected drug pushers were indicted before the prosecutors’ office on Thursday for violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165).#
