OPPORTUNITIES come in droves despite calamities in Buguey town in Cagayan, thanks to the first-ever Cold Chain Facility in Cagayan Valley region inaugurated recently.

Hats off to Buguey Mayor Licerio Millare Antiporda III, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Director Angel Encarnacion and Department of Trade and Industry officials for pushing for the newly built cold chain facility.

True, the existence of the said facility will be a big way to support the needs of the people, especially the fishers of Buguey and neighboring towns.

Beneficial as always, this post-harvest facility will also serve as support to prevent the spoilage of aquatic products in the said town which is the reason for the low income of the fishermen.

The officials of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources bureau and the Trade and Industry need not just engage in pep talk of boosting production of aquatic products in the town of Buguey but also to sustain and maintain the facility through assistance on access to modern technologies.

Hence, as the DTI puts it, a quality and sufficient supply of aquatic products throughout the year, not just during peak seasons, will meet market demand nationwide.#
