AS the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), popularly known as the national association of newspapers since 1964, opens its doors to legitimate news websites, a substantial growth is expected to be seen.
The news website owners can now apply for membership, subject to approval by the board.
The historic development came as its members unanimously approved the proposed amendment in the membership provision of its By-Laws from Regular and Associate to Print and Online.
The PPI Board is laudable for having a “bold move” by being “not just relevant but more inclusive.” It runs parallel to the observation of PPI chairman-president Rolando Estabillo that the media landscape has changed drastically and that the Institute cannot afford to be parochial and passive.
Atty. Ruevivar Reyes, Visayas trustee and corporate secretary, noted the need “to recalibrate the workings of the organization” and the action is but one vital move to infuse more “blood” into the organization’s current structure.
To make the resolution legal, the PPI should, as early as practicable, will submit to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the amendment in its Articles of Incorporation and by—Laws.
Going beyond means PPI is gearing for a more robust organization.#
