The death toll rose to 279 as the search for bodies at the site of Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane crash on Sunday (June 15), wire reports said.
The London-bound jet crashed into a medical college hostel in a residential area of India’s Ahmedabad in Gujarat state, killing 241 on board and at least 29 on the ground in initial reports.
The lone survivor, Ramesh Vishwashkumar, a 40-year-old British national, seated at 11A. He managed to escape the wreckage, sustaining only minor injuries.
In television interviews from his hospital bed, he saw bodies around him so he stood up and ran. He eventually fell and found unconscious due to bruises on his face and body.
Ramesh told Indian state media DD News: “I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out.โ#
