TUGUEGARAO CITY-Community pantries had sprouted like mushrooms but some of these have been partly organized by government youth leaders.
In Annafunan East in this city, Sangguniang Kabataan president Gerald Valdez said they had asked for donations aside from their own funds and later put up a community pantry with groceries, bottled water, rice, vegetables and other goods for poor villagers who are in need of help during the pandemic. A similar youth group-led pantry was established in Balzain village.
“Luckily for us, those who have money are helping and we hope to sustain this venture,” Valdez told this correspondent over the phone.
In Camasi village in Peñablanca, Cagayan, villager Pauline Tatiana Custodio-Dela Cruz has shelled out her own money and then got help from civic-spirited fellows in their sub-village. They then put up a table with the goods for the needy villagers who cannot buy food due to lack of money or due to lockdown in Purok 6. The village has ten COVID-19 positive, she added.#
