SANTIAGO CITY-Thirty-nine families or 139 people were evacuated on Wednesday night until Thursday (Sept. 18) early morning following the onset of floods along the Muslim community compound in Mabini village.
Village head Gina Santos said the villagers were brought to the barangay evacuation center and were given sleeping kits, food and relief packs.
The villagers will be expected to return to their houses once the floods subside in their areas.
Meanwhile, a tricycle fell off a canal swelled with floodwaters on Wednesday late afternoon, nearly drowning the driver, who later swam back to a safe site at the provincial road in Sagana, Santiago City.
Due to the situation, villagers have urged local officials and the public works agency to speed up works on the unfinished flood control projects in the city.#
