ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao — The body of a six-year-old boy who drowned in a river in Banaue town, Ifugao, was recovered Thursday morning, police reported.

Authorities said the boy went missing on Tuesday after slipping while attempting to step from one rock to another while swimming with friends in Sitio Imbiya-ag, Barangay Cambulo, Banaue.

Swept away by the strong current, he could not be rescued by his companions.

Search-and-retrieval teams—composed of police, firefighters, local government and disaster risk reduction workers, and volunteers—scoured the river for nearly three days before finding the child’s body caught between rocks at around 10:50 a.m.

The remains were brought to a funeral home for embalming and later turned over to the family for the wake.
