TUGUEGARAO CITY-At least 200 farmers and cooperatives received indemnities from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) worth P2.664-million due to their farm crop losses due to past typhoons in Cagayan at the regional office in Carig Sur.
The farmer-recipients came from the towns of Baggao, Alcala, Amulung, Enrile, Peñablanca, and Solana, and Tuguegarao City.
Guest speaker Senator Francis Pangilinan, Senate committee on agriculture chair, prodded the PCIC to raise the insurance fund for farmers especially those ravaged by typhoons.
He pledged Cagayan farmers to help them relay their concerns to proper agencies such as crop losses and damage.
“Our farmers will continue to wallow in poverty if they will not be helped financially, among others.
They are the ones feeding us. We should treat farmers as fathers who earn to let their children eat daily,” he said.#
