JUST recently, the spike of dengue cases has brought fears to villagers with some areas having dengue outbreak threats.
Earlier, a dengue outbreak has been reported in Quezon City on February 15, with a surge in cases or about 1,800 cases recorded in the same period this year. It shows about 200-percent year-on-year increase. Ten fatalities have been reported, including eight minors in the city.
Eight other areas in the country, including those in Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and the National Capital Region are under siege and would likely declare outbreaks due to rising cases. Across the nation, at least 43,000 cases have been recorded since February 15, which mark a 56-percent increase from the previous year.
Water collection may be one of the ways even as cleanup drive has been a regular practice nationwide in a bid to apply the provisions under the National Environmental Awareness Education Act and the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
Proper waste disposal during the rainy season is a good way to avoid mosquito breeding grounds. Through this way, stagnant waterways and garbage are properly disposed.
Let the citizens, local government units, and other stakeholders must do their share to alleviate mosquitoes by maintaining cleanliness aside from having proper waste management and disposal in their communities.#
