TUGUEGARAO CITY-A 54-year-old village head in Claveria, Cagayan died while nine other occupants were wounded when their car fell off a shallow ravine while cruising a curved road along Pared, Alcala town on July 18 dawn, police said on Friday.

Declared dead on arrival at the hospital was Jesus Calatican, 54, village chief of Lablabig in Claveria, Cagayan. His injured companions were China, 54, and Andres, 52, both surnamed Rubio; Rosalie, 65, and Princess, both surnamed Udac, all of Lablabig village; Edimar Pascua, 49; Benelyn Martinez, 44; Pedro Cabangin, 65, and two minors, all of Kilkiling, Claveria town.

Herome Ibarra, Alcala disaster risk reduction and management officer, said the government-owned car fell down a shallow ravine while they were cruising a curved road along Pared village while on their way to Isabela.

The crash was reported as a human error as Calatican was not drunk. He believed to have miscalculated the road.

Responders retrieved Calatican after he was pinned down inside the van during the crash. 

His companions have been recuperating at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.#
