TUGUEGARAO CITY-New Cagayan Governor Edgar Aglipay, a 77-year-old retired general and former Philippine National Police chief, has asked national and local leaders, as well as agency heads, in the province to follow the incumbent administration’s mandate on Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines).

Speaking before the guests and visitors, who endured the sweltering heat, at the provincial capitol grounds, Aglipay said he would give an authority to assess, evaluate and give a grade on the performance of the government agencies in Cagayan, which will form a part of the province’s report to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacanang. “Please, comply with the requirements of the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’. I will ask the mayors [to check your] accomplishment regarding ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ and the [outcome] will be the Province of Cagayan’s report to the Office of the President,” Aglipay said.

Aglipay, who took his oath of office as new governor before Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando on June 30, said that “it is high time” to follow the mandate of the President to help achieve the initiatives on attaining peace and economic development in Cagayan and nationwide. “I will report to the President’s office on what you are doing and what I am doing. It is high time to do the plans of the President, not the governor’s wishes, not the congressmen’s wishes,” he said in mixed Filipino and English.

He asked the town mayors of Pamplona, Gonzaga, Baggao, Amulung, and Rizal later to grade his management of the province. Despite losing big in the said towns, Aglipay said he will do his best to serve, including in areas where he did not fare well.
