TUGUEGARAO CITY-Former Cagayan governor and congressman Edgar Lara of Lasam town died on June 11 afternoon due to pneumonia, his kin said.


Cagayan 3rd District Rep. Joseph Lara, the congressman’s cousin, confirmed the news and said that the three-term former governor and two-term former congressman had been a part of “vital legislative measures that touched the lives of the people.”


“As the governor, he served with dignity, talent, and dedication, showing respect and caring to all Cagayanos,” he said in a statement.


Dubbed as an adviser and a guidepost during the twilight of his life, Lara returned to his farm in  Ignacio Jurado village in Lasam aside from his lawyering.


He finished his Bachelor of Laws degree at the Lyceum of the Philippines, his undergraduate course at the University of the Philippines, his high school at the Cagayan National High School and elementary studies at the Lasam Central School.
He served as provincial governor from 2001 to 2007 and as 2nd district congressman from 1992-2001.#
