CABARROGUIS, Quirino-Health authorities have been clamoring for the community’s participation in alleviating the clustering of dengue cases in Cagayan Valley as 3,389 patients with 11 deaths have been recorded from January 1 to May 24 this year—a sharp increase from the 1,678 cases with five deaths of the same period in 2024.
In a dengue situation forum on May 29 at the Hostel Building B of the Quirino Sports Complex here, Dr. Janet Ibay, Department of Health-Cagayan Valley’s Infectious Diseases Cluster head, said that for this year, five deaths were listed in Isabela and three deaths each in Cagayan and Quirino during the same period in 2025, way more than the four cases in Isabela and one in Batanes in 2024.
“We need the community’s involvement to alleviate dengue cases. The health department, the government cannot do this alone,” she added.
Isabela’s dengue cases increased with 1,377 cases and five deaths this year while there were only 431 cases and four deaths in 2024 or a 219-percent increase during the same period.
Cagayan, on the other hand, has 803 cases this year while there were only 294 in 2024 or a 173-percent increase.
Cases also increased in Quirino with 268 cases from 114 cases in 2024 or a 135-percent increase.
Cases also increased in the independent city of Santiago with 202 cases in 2025 from 2024 or a 149-percent increase.
Only the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Batanes saw a decrease in dengue cases.
Twenty-four cases were recorded in Batanes this year while 32 in 2024 or a 25-percent decrease.
Cases in Nueva Vizcaya, on the other hand, decreased by two percent, with 715 cases this year while 726 in 2024.#
