#๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฃ๐, Enforce Preemptive Evacuation
La Union is now on heightened alert due to the threat of Super Typhoon Pepito, placing the province under Signal No. 4 as of the 2PM weather bulletin of the state weather bureau today, November 17, 2024.
The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โRafyโ Ortega-David, is now implementing comprehensive and provincewide measures to ensure the safety of constituents and mitigate the impact of the typhoon.
“We are anticipating intense rains and winds tonight in the province so we focus on the safety of our provincemates and intensify our preparation for the potential impact of Super Typhoon Pepito to avoid casualties,” Gov. Ortega-David emphasized.
Gov. Rafy, in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), has directed all local government units (LGUs) to enforce preemptive evacuation in areas prone to flooding and landslides. Evacuation centers across the province and Barangay DRRMs have been prepared to accommodate affected families, ensuring the availability of food packs, clean water, medical supplies, and essential equipment.
“We continue to advise our constituents to remain alert and prepared and we encourage them to evacuate now especially those living in criticall areas prone to flooding and landslides,” Gov. Ortega-David added
In the Municipality of Bangar, residents of a flood-prone village, Brgy. Mindoro, preemptively evacuated due to threat of flooding in their area.
Heavy machinery are already prepositioned and ready for deployment for immediate clearing operations, while emergency generator sets have been deployed to critical facilities, including hospitals and evacuation centers. Relief services for augmentation are being prepared for distribution to LGUs to meet the needs of evacuees. The La Union Command Center is operating 24/7 to provide real-time updates and receive emergency reports.
LGUs of coastal areas have already issued advisories to temporarily suspend all water activities, such as swimming, fishing, and boating, due to storm surge warning caused by the typhoon.
With #PepitoPHโs projected trajectory over the next 12 to 24 hours, the PGLU strongly encourages its constituents to remain vigilant, stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor official announcements from PGLU and PAGASA.#
